4 Shopping Tips For Healthy Food

We are all eager to live healthier lives, right up until we see the price on that joint of organic grass fed beef… then we are not so sure. Yet with some smart choices then you can eat a lot more healthily, without it costing you anymore than you pay at the moment, here are some tips to help you out:

Eat more fish - Fish is good for you, we hear that all the time on the TV and in the papers, but if you go for something like wild Alaskan salmon, then you are going to pay a premium for it. Yet fish is still better for you than other meats even without buying the premium cuts, instead get some tinned tuna or if you insist on getting some microwave meals then get some ones with fish in instead of your usual ones.

Take your own lunch to work - When you don’t take your own lunch into work then you are at the mercy of what the cafeteria sells or worse, the vending machine. This means not only are you more likely to choose less healthy options, but you are actually spending more too. Instead brown bag some healthy lunch, some fruit and a sandwich and a little treat, and you won’t be persuaded to buy that slice of pizza and chocolate brownie when your stomach starts to grumble.

Don’t be afraid of discounted goods - There is no need to shy away from discounted goods, as long as you are going to use them promptly after purchase then they are usually perfect, and they will save you a bundle as the supermarkets just want to get rid of them to make more space so they give huge discounts. Find out when they start to discount the bakery goods and then you can time your visits by that and grab some bargain bagels etc ready for your lunch the next day.

Don’t forget you can get fruit and veg that is discounted too, just make sure you have a good look through and only choose the items in the best condition, then take your bargains home and use them asap.

Buy straight from the farmer - A great way to get really healthy and tasty food is to visit farmers markets or go to farms that have shops on site. This way you actually save money as the veg is not sold to a big supermarket who then send it half way round the country and freeze it, just so they can ship it back again at a later date and up the price. So you get fresh fruit and veg and you save money!

Those are just some quick and easy ways to get more healthy food into your diet without putting a strain on your wallet, don’t try to do them all at once, introduce one at a time into your shopping habits and soon you’ll look back and wonder how you used to shop for so much junk food when it is so easy to get real, wholesome food instead!

If you really want to start eating healthily and maybe lose some of the pounds that junk food added to your frame, then check out this Every Other Day Diet review.

How Can Fruits And Vegetables Incorporate Into Your Life As A 5 A Day

5 A Day is a slogan put out by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It suggests that eating five portions of fruits & vegetables every day will lead to a healthier life. This sounds great in theory, but turns out to be hard in practice, especially when we try to implement it for our children.

We start by recognizing what’s at stake. Children face more and more health issues each year. The reports of childhood allergies, diabetes, or even immune deficiencies continue to grow. Then there are the kids who are just generally sick or overweight.

From the start, pregnant moms often forget to eat a healthy diet in favor of what’s most “convenient”. But getting your children started eating right begins in the womb. If babies experience healthy foods in utero and at the breast, they’ll be more likely to want them later in their lives too. And not only that, children who are fed right from the beginning will be healthier and stronger throughout their lives.

Of course, children’s eating habits, good or bad, are not just gained from experience in the womb or at the breast. Children learn by example too. Parents should always remember that they are being closely watched by little eyes. So eating healthy is just as important for mom and dad as it is for the kids.

A balanced meal through mother’s milk would support a stronger immunesystem and minimize doctor visits and illnesses. Eating healthy meals in this way builds children’s immune systems before birth, but also gives children the ability to accept healthier meals after birth.

Limit your trips to fast food restaurants. No more eating on the go! These “quick fixes” at dinner time do more harm than good. Too often we justify them because of the time they save, but in the long run, shortening our lives and compromising our health is not what we want for us or our kids.

It is way too easy to let bad habits continue. After all, breaking them is hard, especially when both parents are working and the kids’ calendars are filled with activities. But it is worth it. Make healthy eating a priority in your home, not just something you try, but something you do!

With two parents working to support the family, it is even more difficult to control what children eat throughout the day. Bad habits set in and become normal, slowly consuming children’s health. Children eat fast foods, even come to school with it, because it is convenient for parents. We teach children that this is normal. Fast food should be eaten on rare occasions only and not be served on a regular basis.

Healthy eating is not a fad. It is not to be a once in a while treat. 5 A Day and eating healthy must become a habitual part of our lifestyle. Ultimately, our health and our quality of life depend on it. When we choose healthy eating and healthy living, we extend our quality of life and extend our ability to live a normal life. All of this starts with a simple change in our eating habits.

Be consistent about eating healthy and your kids will learn to accept 5 A Day as normal, not just something to do every few months when mom or dad go on a fad diet. Make eating healthy a habit. A healthy diet is worth it in the long run for the children and mom and dad too. It brings a better quality of life and may even extend your lives. So start with 5 A Day, “the healthy way” for you and your children, and you’ll be on your way. Make it more than just a slogan for your family!

Healthy Chocolate – The Best Tasting Health Food

Healthy Chocolate comes with some of the most essential nutrients needed by most Americans. This is probably why we all have chocolate cravings.

Chocolate comes from the fruit of the cacao tree. This fruit contains cacao seeds or beans and inside the bean is where you’ll find the chocolate.

Highest Amount of Antioxidants

Real chocolate has more antioxidant flavonoids than any known food on this planet. Antioxidants protect your body from the aging process created by free radicals. The more unprocessed and low temperature treated the chocolate, the more antioxidants it will contain.

The Benefits of Flavonoids:

Helps prevent damage to your cells

Reduces blood clotting

Helps with your circulation

Lowers your risk of heart disease

Dark chocolate has quite a bit more antioxidant flavonoids than milk chocolate and raw chocolate would have the highest amounts.

Highest Amount of Magnesium

Healthy Chocolate is a great way to help balance your brain chemistry during that time of the month or any time of the month. Women seem to crave chocolate more then men and this could be due to a need for the mineral magnesium.

To keep your heart functioning at its best, you need a regular supply of magnesium. Americans are extremely deficient in this mineral and about 80% of us need to focus on adding more to our diets.

Healthy Fatty Acids

Chocolate is comprised of saturated fats as well as monounsaturated fats. The saturated fat in chocolate does not appear to raise your cholesterol levels.

Chocolate’s monounsaturated fat contains a powerful fatty acid called oleic acid which is also found in olive oil.

Contains Chemicals that Make You Feel Good

The chemicals that affect your brain chemistry are called anandamide and phenylethylamine.

Along with increasing your awareness, phenylethylamine produces a feeling very similar to the one you experience when you fall-in-love with someone.

Anandamide gives you a feeling of bliss. Chocolate increases the level of anandamide in your brain and its enzyme inhibitors slow its breakdown which promotes relaxation and feeling great.

Healthy Chocolate is Uncooked Chocolate

Low temperature treated chocolate is considered a super food because it retains its valuable nutrients, vitamins and minerals.

It’s a great source of the minerals magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, calcium and potassium. You can also find vitamin E and B vitamins in this super food.

Raw chocolate or raw cacao is low in caffeine, but contains theobromine. This is the less stimulating sister molecule of caffeine.

Experiments have shown that these stimulants are far different when consumed raw. Chocolate has a much more stimulating effect when it is cooked or roasted.
