			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One reason Americans tend to be overweight is because they consume far more calories than their body actually needs, says Dr. Anju Mathur, who runs the Angel Longevity Medical Center in Los Angeles. A low-calorie diet could be the answer, as she explains here.</p>
<p>One theory of current research is that a body ages faster if one consumes more food than is needed by the body.  In a study done on rats, two groups were used.  One was fed a very low calorie diet, and the second group was fed at the all you can eat buffet, so to speak.  Those with the low calorie diet had a lifespan about one and a half times longer than the usual lifespan of rats.  So this led to the theory that if one consumes less calories, one can live longer.</p>
<p>VLCD Theory</p>
<p>VCLD is the abbreviation for Very Low Calorie Diet.  This diet is based on the idea of not consuming more calories than the body needs.  Dr. Mather has refined a program called the &#8220;Slim and Trim at Last&#8221; program, part of which is a very low calorie diet.  But also included in this procedure is injections of hCG hormone, which converts unnecessary body fat into energy.  When you use up fat for energy, the body doesn&#8217;t need so much food to function.</p>
<p>When a patient starts the diet and daily injections of hCG, he or she can lose up to a pound of fat a day.  A pound of fat is converted into 3,000 calories, so with that many calories to run the body, a patient needs only consume 500 calories.  Dr. A. T. W. Simeon original researched this procedure in the 1960&#8217;s.</p>
<p>Combating Empty Nutrition</p>
<p>Dr. Mather mentions she regularly sees people who eat for two &#8211; over 5,000 calories a day.  Fast food is rampant, and every portion is huge, because food is cheap.  However, most of the food contains little nutritional value, but it does contain toxins, which are stored in body fat. </p>
<p>A very low calorie diet only works well with the hormone injections.  The low calorie diet by itself is merely starvation and a person trying to live on 500 calories a day will lack energy even for basic bodily functions.  The hormone injections break up fat and allow the body to use it as calories to produce energy, without side effects.</p>
<p>By itself, a low caloric diet will not work as it breaks down the structural fat and it breaks down the proteins of the body first.  Structural fat and protein in muscle is needed by the body to operate. </p>
<p>But a very low calorie diet with hCG hormone injections causes the body to break down stored fat, and thus lose weight.  Dr. Mather has now made this program available to all patients at Angel Longevity Medical Center and has had many successes.</p>
